There are two ways to get your answer. One is the way the poster above did, with the circumference of the earth and in the other direction, the way they have is. Both are correct, then make your choice.

3458.6 miles

1 length of 69,172 kilometers in Ecuador. (If you're away from meridians Ecuador alignment of the trail is less than 69172)

10 ° W and 40 ° E is a total of 50 °

1 ° If 69,172 miles would be 50 °
50 x 69,172
= 3458.6 miles

1 degree about 70 miles. Then take 10 + 40 = 60 degrees x 70 = 4200 miles

Equatorial circumference of the earth is about 24.903 miles. Voyager 10 degrees west of Greenwich and 40 degrees east of Greenwich travel a total of 50 degrees (not 60 as in the previous answer), or 50/360ths of the train. Along the equator would be the shortest route, so the answer is 24903 * 50 / 360 or about 3459 miles.
